Makers of Tomorrow

Giving young people the chance to discover craft - from the people who make a living from it.

Discover tomorrow's possibilities

Makers of Tomorrow brings secondary-school students together with professional craftspeople — from ceramicists and jewellers to textile artists, woodworkers and those specialising in restoration and repurposing.

Through conversations, demonstrations, studio visits, work-shadowing and work-experience placements, students can discover the reality behind a craft career: how skills are learned, how ideas become objects, how a workshop functions and how a maker turns their craft into a livelihood.

For some students, it may be their first opportunity to meet someone who has built an independent career through practical skills and creativity. For others, it may reveal a possibility they had never considered.

We are building two communities

Schools
We work with secondary schools to create meaningful encounters between students and professional makers.

Makers
We are building a network of craftspeople who are willing to share their knowledge, their workplace and their experience with the next generation.

A learning experience does not have to follow a fixed formula. It might be a school visit by a maker to offer an insight into their craft, a practical demonstration of skills, a student spending an afternoon in a studio, a day of work-shadowing or a longer work-experience placement.

What matters is that young people get the chance to meet a real maker and experience the world of craft first-hand.

Be part of Makers of Tomorrow

We are currently developing the Makers of Tomorrow programme with schools and craftspeople across London.

Are you a school interested in offering your students an experience of craft?

Are you a craftsperson who would like to introduce a young person to your work?

If so, why not find out more about how you could become involved.
